MODEL SUMMARY.
WOW ! Quite possibly a unique opportunity to buy a Norton Commando 961 Sport of this vintage, with just 140 miles from new, and obviously in pristine, perfect, and as new condition
Registered July 2014 on a ’14’ prefix, the sole elderly owner collected it from the Norton factory at Donington Hall and rode back home. Unfortunately, a hip replacement beckoned and the bike has not been used since
Has just had a light recommissioning service including Motul 5100 10w/40 engine oil and Fram filter, Motul 5100 10w/40 gearbox and primary drive oil, Champion CR9EiX Iridium plugs and Yuasa battery. Original bill of sale and service invoices present
In beautiful Manx Silver with Black pinstriping and detailing, these are a thing of beauty, handbuilt by Stuart Garner’s revived Norton Company at their Donington Hall factory in the East Midlands
The mechanical specification remains true to the original bikes with a 961cc air cooled parallel twin, and 2v per cylinder operated by pushrods. The gearbox and final drive is a separate unit, and utilises a wet clutch. Of course, there are concessions to modernity with electronic fuel injection and ignition, all looked after by a dedicated ECU which in this case has had a later engine map installed
All parts on these bikes are of premium quality and include 43mm diameter Ohlins forks with adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping, Ohlins reservoir style twin rear shock absorbers with adjustable ride height, compression and rebound damping, Machined billet yokes, Brembo 320mm diameter floating high carbon front discs, Brembo ‘Goldline’ axially mounted 4 piston calipers, Brembo 220mm diameter rear disc, Brembo 2 piston rear caliper, Braided brake lines, Bespoke Norton instruments with chrome bezzles and housings, electronic analogue speedometer and tachometer, with multi function display, and appropriate ‘Norton – Handbuilt at Donington Hall’ plaque, Morad stainless steel polished spoked rims with 3.5″ x 17″ front, and 5.5″ x 17″ rear fitted with 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tyres, Carbon fibre front hugger, Magura grips and a Colour coded Manx silver seat cowl (and pillion seat)
And so, a hugely desirable, charismatic machine, reminiscent of a previous age. Just a wonderful bike to cruise around on, in some style, and will always raise smiles from onlookers thanks to it’s period look and character
So if you are looking for one of these, to perhaps relive your youth, or just to enjoy, then this bike is as good as it gets
