Based upon the the 2CR model launched in 2015, that, as with the original 4XV model, again moved the Superbike game forward by quite a big leap. Contemporary tests unanimously declared the bike to be the best of it’s type, and that was against very stiff opposition from Ducati’s 1299 Panigale and BMW’s Gen 3 S1000RR. The other Japanese rivals, namely Honda’s Fireblade, Suzuki’s GSX-R 1000 and Kawasaki’s ZX-10R weren’t even on the same page, all being models that had been in production for some time
What set the R1 2CR apart was it’s unprecedented and extensive use of electronics, used throughout, whether for engine management, chassis control, or braking. A plethora of acronyms filled the handbook and the technology included Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) Yamaha Transistor Controlled Ignition (TCI) Yamaha Power Delivery Mode (PWR) Yamaha Traction Control System (TCS) Yamaha Launch Control System (LCS) Yamaha Lift Control (LIF) Yamaha Slide Control System (SCS) Yamaha Quick Shifter System (YQSS) Yamaha Communication Control Unit (CCU) Yamaha Suspension Control Unit (SCU) and a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD instrument panel
The mechanical specification included a 998cc ‘Crossplane’ In-Line 4 motor developing 200 ps, and a 6 speed transmission allied to a wet multiplate ‘slipper’ clutch with stopping taken care of by 320mm diameter fully floating front discs, radially mounted 4-piston calipers, UBS (Unified Braking System) with ABS and a 220mm rear disc, UBS (Unified Braking System) ABS
These World GP 60th Anniversary examples were produced in commemoration of Yamaha’s first ever entry into a World Grand Prix Race, that being the 1961 French GP. They had a truly beautiful colour scheme in Yamaha Heritage Red/White. and were fitted with complimenting Gold wheels, Gold forks, Yamaha Factory Race Gold tuning fork emblems and special commemorative badging on the airbox cover….
…just glorious
This particular example also benefits from a SC Project CR-T Titanium De-Cat Exhaust with Link Pipe, Yamaha Race Cowl with 60th Anniversary insignia, ASV Levers, Yamaha Tank Pad and Knee Pads, R&G Aero Fairing Protectors, R&G Tail Tidy and R&G Paddock Stand Bobbins
A phenomenal bit of kit and, an awe inspiring machine. With distinct current and future collectability, this one presents an opportunity for someone for a ‘box fresh’ essentially brand new example
