These bikes are amongst the very last of Enfield’s venerable and much loved 500cc air cooled single, ultimately killed off by Euro 5 regulations, and are sure to remain forever more much sought after as a significantly historical model
Based on the existing Bullet, they are inspired by the trials Enfields of old, which achieved much success in the hands of works rider Johnny Brittain, winning more than 50 championship events between 1948-1965. Heritage like that richly deserves to be remembered and celebrated
They have a late Euro 4 compliant engine, along with ABS brakes, a 19″ diameter front wheel, a larger 280mm diameter front disc brake, a 240mm diameter rear disc brake, telescopic front forks and gas filled rear shocks
Styling features include a high level upswept exhaust, single Brown leather seat pad, rear rack, and, in the case of this particular example, a Royal Enfield Genuine Accessories headlamp grille and rubber knee pads
They look just fantastic, and appear to have come from a different age and time, which of course is their raison d’etre. The silver paintwork sparkles and compliments the lashings of chrome and red frame and mudguard stays beautifully. With combination kick and electric start, and fuss free modern fuel injection, it’s very much a case of being able to enjoy all the attributes of a true classic machine but with peerless reliability
The 499cc air cooled OHV single cylinder motor offers ample performance for what this bike needs to offer, and has the distinctive ‘thump’ that only a big single delivers. The gearbox is a 5 speed manual with left foot gearchange, accompanied by a 7-plate wet clutch. Telescopic front forks and gas filled rear shocks mated with large disc brakes front and rear ensure these little bikes handle and stop more than adequately, and spoked chrome rims look nothing less than ace. Combined with a traditional speedometer, triangular tool boxes and full length mudguards, amongst many other styling detail touches, it all adds up to an incredibly pretty and charismatic machine, which achieves in every way exactly what it sets out to do
In terms of overall condition, this bike is essentially new, very clearly the total pride and joy of it’s sole owner. Unmarked, and all but perfect, it is absolutely lovely. A bike of much character, that will of course appeal to a certain type of motorcyclist and their needs. One thing is for sure, it will always turn heads, and smiles and waves are assured from onlookers. Great fun
