MODEL SUMMARY.
Glorious Ducati 1198 SP in Ducati Corse Red. 2011 61 Reg
This is the last of the belt driven, trellis framed Ducati Superbikes, just prior to the introduction of the (almost) completely different in every way 1199 Panigale
Very much the end of an era bike, this particular example has led an incredibly charmed, and unusual life
It was supplied new by West Country Ducati franchised dealers Ryders of Bridgwater to Somerset County Council’s road and safety education department. They are the sole registered keepers from new, and the current mileage is just 6000 miles. It has it’s original stamped service book, original purchase paperwork and old MOTs, in addition to extensive in house paperwork from Somerset County Council. Clear HPI report. All books/documents/keys present
It will be provided with new timing belts and a fresh oil service which will be carried out at point of sale, and a new MOT
We purchased the bike around 3 years ago, to go in our personal collection. The bike at that time was completely stock, standard, untouched, virginal and as it left the Ducati factory. Since we have owned the bike we have fitted immaculate polished carbon oval style Termignoni silencers, along with the 1198 SP specific Ducati Performance Race ECU, and high flow MWR pod filters, and also covered the seat with suede ‘alcantara’
In 2011, when new, this bike was the ultimate Ducati Superbike that could be bought ‘off the shelf’ from a Ducati dealer. Buying an 1198R Corse, which was in existence at that time, was just not possible with all examples sold out to collectors
Somerset County Council’s modus operandi was simple. By having such a machine present at various public events, it would naturally draw motorcyclists in as a point of interest, particularly superbike owners, thus allowing the road safety operatives the opportunity to communicate with and (hopefully to) educate the motorcycling community, but in a friendly, non heavy, common interest manner
The 1198 SP is truly a significant machine in Ducati superbike history, as previously mentioned, being the last of an era of bikes that had the Ducati trademark trellis framework and a belt driven motor. These two things alone had characterised Ducati super bikes since 1986, and disappeared with the introduction of the 1199 Panigale
The SP was similar in specification to the last of the S models, but significantly added a lightweight aluminium fuel tank with natural aluminium central stripe, and DQS – Ducati’s QuickShifter system which had not been seen previously. The technical specification included a traditional trellis frame finished in red constructed from ALS450 alloy, magnesium front sub frame, fully adjustable 43mm dia. Ohlins forks, fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock, fully adjustable Ohlins steering damper, Brembo Monobloc calipers with 330mm dia. front discs, lightweight forged aluminium Marchesini 7 spoke wheels, single sided swingarm finished in Black, DDA – Ducati Data Analyser, DTC – Ducati Traction Control, Moto GP derived LED instruments, stopwatch and lap timer, adjustable levers with Brembo radial master cylinders and remote reservoirs, polyellipsoidal headlamps with LED rear lamps, Ducati Corse Race cowl (and pillion seat) and a Ducati Corse Carbon front fender
Quite simply an awesome superbike with stunning looks, sound and presence, of collector quality, and will only now appreciate as time goes by. Meticulously cared for from new and just beautiful in every way, to look at, to ride, and to own
