MODEL SUMMARY.
Excellent example of a Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird in Candy Glory Red. 3 owners, and just 14000 miles from new….
An early fuel injected ‘X’ suffix bike, fuelled by Keihin Electronic Fuel injection with 42mm throttle bodies. Supplied new by Tony Jefferies Honda in Warrington, it was registered in June 1999 on a ‘T’ prefix registration number
The original owner retained it for 21 years until January 2021, at which point he sold it to his next door neighbour but one, and so the bike moved from number 23 in the street to number 19. It had been used routinely up until May 2014 at which point the mileage was a touch over 13000 miles
With next to no usage for 7 years, the second owner mechanically recommissioned the bike sympathetically with the usual attention to fluids and filters, fuel system, linkages etc. However, this work was of greater interest to him than riding the bike….and so, in June 2023, it was sold to it’s third and last keeper with the mileage at 13300. Fast forward 2 years and it has now been part exchanged with us, the mileage at point of trade in being 13998 miles
We have the original service book with owners card, some service bills/invoices, all old MOTs, a VOSA mileage history report, clear HPI report and owners’ manual/all documents/keys (with number tag) present
We have just carried out a Shell Advance Ultra fully synthetic oil service, and a new MOT will be provided at point of sale. The bike has as new Bridgestone BT023s fitted, and is in fine mechanical fettle, ready to use and not in need of anything
Essentially standard, it is fitted with some uprated parts which include an MRA tinted touring screen with additional wind deflector (original screen supplied) JAWS Motorcycles bar risers, Custom seat with suede seat pads, embossed CBR XX, and coloured piping, and a Pyramid front fender extender
The CBR1100-XX designated ‘Super Blackbird’ was launched in 1996 and named after the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, which was naturally a very fast vehicle. It enjoyed, for a time, the distinction of being the fastest motorcycle that money could buy, then displacing Kawasaki’s ZZR1100 of that particular accolade, until the launch of Suzuki’s Hayabusa in 1999 (with amusingly Hayabusa being the Japanese word for Peregine Falcon, which eats Blackbirds !)
In 1999, as with the bike here, the fuelling transitioned from carburettors to electronic fuel injection, with hp and torque remaining the same at 164bhp and 124Nm respectively. With this came the introduction of Honda’s HISS electronic immobiliser system. The motor was an in-line 4 cylinder with twin balancer shafts. Other key mechanical specifications included a 22 litre Fuel Tank, Combined Braking System with Linked Brakes (CBS) 3 Piston Brake Calipers, Honda Multi Action Suspension (HMAS) 43mm H.M.A.S front forks, Pro-Link single shock rear suspension adjustable for preload and rebound, and LCD instruments with fuel gauge. This one also has a factory fitted centre stand fitted
Even today, the Super Blackbird remains a magnificent machine, one of the most comfortable of super tourers, immensely powerful and capable of huge mileages in a totally fuss free manner
This particular bike is quite wonderful. In totally original, very clean condition indeed, it remains essentially exactly as it did when it left the Honda showroom 26 years ago. With only 3 owners from new, and just 14000 miles, and as one of the very first fuel injected models, it must surely become ever more sought after as time goes by
