Wow ! Utterly superb, stock, standard and original Ford Escort XR3i Mk3 in Mercury Grey metallic, with Raven sports trim. Supplied by Ford Main Agents Edwards Bros of Salisbury and registered August 1988 on an ‘F’ prefix. Unrestored, and never welded.
70000 miles, warranted, genuine and correct. 3 owners from new, with the 2nd keeper owning it for 21 years from 1997 to 2018, it has an extensive amount of service history, all laminated and neatly filed in an A4 lever arch folder. Everything of significance is present including it’s original stamped service book and all owners manuals/handbooks, the original Vehicle and Customer Service Record stamped by supplying Ford dealer, numerous service bills/invoices, a previous bill of sale, numerous old MOTs and all keys (including number tag)
We have recently serviced the car to include a new Gates timing belt, Shell Helix oil with Ford o.e filter, Motorcraft plugs and Air filter, The fuel system has also been overhauled due to old, contaminated fuel and we have fitted a new fuel tank, fuel pump, accumulator, filter and low pressure fuel hose.
This car is remarkably clean, totally original in terms of it’s panels, and never welded. This must not be underestimated, and makes it very rare indeed. This is not a restored, re-painted car brought back to former glory, but one that has remained unspoilt and untouched from new. All characterising exterior features such as its 14” alloy wheels shod with 185/60 R14 Dunlop Sport SPs, to it’s original fitment Carello 640 driving lamps, to it’s matt black rear spoiler, to the original decals, all exactly as they should be.
The interior is all but perfect, exactly as it left the factory. Photographed without it’s overmats in, the footwell carpets are as new. This really is a ‘time warp’ car, a phrase used all too often, but this car really is exactly as it always was, and sitting in it now is no different to sitting in it in the early 90’s. It’s a standard spec. 1988 model year XR3i, and so has Chubb locks with central door locking, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, ‘soft feel’ 2 spoke sports steering wheel and a tilt and glass sunroof, but no options such as the fuel computer, or electric windows were specified. The only option fitted at extra cost to this car were the dealer fitment front and rear mudflaps.
The CVH engine in this car is super sweet, with a lovely ‘old skool’ rasp of an exhaust note, and combined with a very light clutch, easy unobstructive gearchange, and excellent brakes, the car is an absolute joy to drive.
So there it is. Without doubt one of the nicest, original and best driving XR3is that will be found. With excellent ownership, mileage and history provenance, this is a wonderful modern classic, totally useable and untemperamental, that will genuinely provide a huge amount of smiles and fun, and which should prove a sound investment.
