Original owner in January 1998 was ex GP racer Paul Smart, fondly remembered in Ducati circles, amongst many others
Paul ran a motorcycle sales shop in Paddock Wood, and in July 1998 the bike was sold to it’s second, and only other keeper. The second keeper was a personal friend of Paul’s, and very close to his family and wife Maggie, and remained so until Paul’s untimely passing in September 2021
The current V5 log book, and historical ones in the file, shows Paul as the original owner January 1998 until July 1998, and then the second owner from that time onwards
The bike itself is a very early VFR800F, being the first of the Fi Fuel Injected bikes identified by it‘s manual ‘choke‘ (fast idle) and lack of HISS immobiliser. It still displays it’s original number plate with Paul Smart Ltd featured, and has it’s original Paul Smart Ltd leather keyfob and toolkit present
Following on from the VFR750, this model of VFR was referred to as the finest bike in the world by many journals upon it’s launch in 1997, and remains to this day a bike of total completeness, being fast, comfortable, a competent sports bike or tourer, with an engine of immense usability and character, and Honda’s build quality at it’s finest
There is little to say about this bike other than that it is in truly excellent, original condition. Totally standard other than for a sports exhaust, although the original exhaust comes with it
From a collectors’ viewpoint, it is exactly how the most discerning buyer would wish it to be
Most VFRs were bought to be used, and so this bike with it’s very low mileage, and interesting ownership and back story, really stands out above others
