The Tornado Novecento Tre 900 is in itself a most unusual and exotic motorcycle, but the RS model was so much more. The first impression of these bikes is that of a slightly clattery, and mechanical machine, certainly versus a Japanese in-line 4. The CBR1100-XX designated ‘Super Blackbird’ was launched in 1996 and named after the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, which was naturally a very fast vehicle. It enjoyed, for a time, the distinction of being the fastest motorcycle that money could buy, then displacing Kawasaki’s ZZR1100 of that particular accolade, until the launch of Suzuki’s Hayabusa in 1999 (with amusingly Hayabusa being the Japanese word for Peregine Falcon, which eats Blackbirds !)
It had an in-line 4 cylinder motor with twin balancer shafts, and offered 164bhp and 124Nm in an exceptionally smooth fashion. Other key mechanical specifications included a 22 litre Fuel Tank, Combined Braking System with Linked Brakes (CBS) 3 Piston Brake Calipers, Honda Multi Action Suspension (HMAS) 43mm H.M.A.S front forks, Pro-Link single shock rear suspension adjustable for preload and rebound, and LCD instruments with fuel gauge. This bike really needs to be seen to be believed. The condition is quite magnificent, in terms of anything and everything, and any superlative used to describe it would be entirely apt…
..it has many beautifully polished parts which include the forks, swingarm, exhaust and downpipes, footpegs, heel plates, chain adjusters, fork yokes, brake/clutch levers, bar ends, rear brake lever, gear lever, wheel spindles, wheel bearing holders, wheel rims and even brake pipe unions. Stainless bolts feature everywhere, the wheel and brake disc centres are as new, the calipers perfect etc, etc
Additionally, the paintwork is essentially unmarked, and probably shinier than when it was new. Custom instrument faces are also fitted, and the rear suspension shock absorber, finished in red, is also as new, as are the gold chain and sprockets
An incredibly rare find in such beautiful, immaculate condition, and a launch specification Blackbird of course remains an utterly fabulous machine to ride. An absolute gem

Genuinely considered a game changing motorcycle, the K5 model is considered by many to be the ultimate GSX-R model due to it’s light weight, and 176bhp motor. Later models became hampered by emissions technology and were heavier, whereas the earlier models were less powerful. 176bhp only tells half the story, the mid range torque and performance of these bikes is a match for anything, even all this time on
Vs the earlier K4 model that it replaced, the K5’s capacity grew to 999cc from 988cc, and the rev limit was raised by 1500rpm to 13,500rpm. Further to this, the motor had titanium valves to help the motor rev faster, as well as a new shape combustion chamber, re-enforced crank and con-rods, slipper clutch, dual-injector throttle bodies and a re-designed gearbox with revised gear ratios
Really not many like this one left, with 1 owner ownership and completely stock, standard and original, other than for a (stock looking) clear bubble screen…
…it’s levers, indicators, number plate hanger, exhaust system with exhaust valve, and everything else, is exactly as Suzuki intended and as it left the showroom. A factory race cowl is fitted, along with tank protector and R&G frame protectors. The pillion seat and original toolkit are provided

This is a 2003 final model year ‘R’ late registered in 2004, and the final incarnation of it’s type. Significantly, the 2003 R bikes offered radially mounted brake calipers for the first time, in the guise of Brembo Gold type, alongside a new close ratio gearbox with revised ratios to gears 1 through to 3
This final year incarnation also had a new fork design, new front wheel design, matte black painted frame, new tail design and new front fender design….
Vs the standard bike, they had the very best componentry and parts, with 43mm USD Ohlins forks, Ohlins rear shock unit, Ohlins steering damper, lightweight forged OZ wheels finished in Gold a lighter rear subframe, Aprilia race cowl (with pillion seat) carbon fibre front and rear huggers, instrument panel cover and fairing louvres
The mechanical specification included the wonderful, musical, liquid Cooled 60 deg ‘Bicilindrico’ V-Twin 8v motor of 998cc capacity, aluminium alloy box section twin spar chassis, aluminium alloy ‘double banana’ swingarm, the afforementioned radially mounted ‘Gold’ Brembo calipers, 320mm diameter floating discs, 51mm diameter throttle bodies, twin spark ignition and a lightweight titanium exhaust with twin outlets
As to be expected this particular bike is in exceptional condition. Aesthetically it is completely stock, standard and original, just as it left the Aprilia showroom all those years ago other than for the side louvres now finished in gold (original silver ones provided)

The mechanical specification remains true to the original bikes with a 961cc air cooled parallel twin, and 2v per cylinder operated by pushrods. The gearbox and final drive is a separate unit, and utilises a wet clutch. Of course, there are concessions to modernity with electronic fuel injection and ignition, all looked after by a dedicated ECU
