A most unusual, if not unique, opportunity to purchase a 2002 registered Ducati Monster 600 with just 269 miles from new. Finished in Ducati Blue Metallic, this is a UK supplied bike that has had just 1 owner, and now comes to us directly from him
The bike is totally stock, standard, untouched, virginal and exactly as it left the Ducati production line
Supplied by Riverside Motorcycles of Northampton, it was registered April 2002 on an ’02’ prefix. From one month old it has worn the personalised plate ‘A17 GGR’ which reflects the sole owner’s surname, and this comes with the bike
The owner had his own reasons for essentially never using the bike, but nevertheless it is what it is. Properly stored from new, at the latter end of last year it was lightly recommissioned with new timing belts, fresh oil, new spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, battery and new tyres (not shown as fitted after photos taken) This is absolutely the real deal, a 21 year old Ducati, in essentially as new condition. All work is fully documented and cost around £650 to be completed
The bike was MOTd at the same time and so is currently MOTd November 2024
Paperwork and documentation present includes the V5C, original bill of sale, PDI documentation and a clear HPI Report. All Ducati books and both keys are also present
The Monster 600 was a compact naked bike produced by Ducati from 1995 to 2002, and so this one is the very last of them. It utilised a relatively simple air cooled 90 degree twin cylinder motor, SOHC and 2v per cylinder, with Ducati’s usual ‘Desmodromic’ springless valve operation, fed by twin Mikuni 38mm carburettors
Whilst far from an exotic Ducati, it still utilised high quality components, especially vs it’s similarly priced Japanese and British rivals, including Marzocchi inverted forks, a Boge rear monoshock, Gold Series Brembo brake caliper and brake/clutch levers, and trademark lattice chrome-moly trellis frame
With shortish, well chosen gearing, the distinctive note of a V-Twin, a competent chassis and brakes, these little M600s are more than capable, and indeed eager to provide thrills a plenty. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, a little bike like this with a willing, characterful 53bhp motor is a very enjoyable motorcycle
With a light kerb weight, and low seat height, this makes for a fantastic first big bike, with style and character in abundance. At this price level, for a buyer looking for a bike of this genre, what else could be more desirable, or indeed rare ?
