MODEL SUMMARY.
Excellent example of a Honda CBR1100XXSuper Blackbird in Candy Muthos Magenta. Candy Muthos Magenta was available for the first year of production only and is rare to be found. A beautiful colour, it is distinctly more purplish in shade vs Candy Glory Red which superceded it
An original launch specification ‘V’ suffix carburetted model fuelled by 4 x 42mm Keihin carburettors, this bike was registered in May 1997 on a ‘P’ prefix registration number and has covered 20000 miles from new
The original owner retained it until September 1999, whereupon the second owner purchased it and kept it for 21 years until 2020. The bike covered just 600 miles between 2006 and 2020. It then passed through short term ownership by a couple of owners before it’s last keeper purchased it in September 2021. He was both an enthusiast, and very capable mechanical engineer, and the bike has now come directly to us from him
Over the winter of 2021/2022, the last keeper meticulously, and sympathetically restored the bike mechanically. Work included Carburettors cleaned ultrasonically and rebuilt with full kits, Cam chain tensioner replaced, Brake/clutch master cylinders resealed, Brake calipers resealed, Clutch slave cylinder resealed, New brake pads front and rear, Fork seals/bushes replaced with new fluid, Fuel tap diaphragm replaced, E10 ethanol proof fuel hoses and inline filters fitted, Thermostat replaced, Cush drive rubbers changed, Steering head bearings replaced with roller taper type, Emission control air valves removed and Iridium plugs fitted
We have just carried out a Shell Advance Ultra fully synthetic oil service and the current MOT expires Februray 2026
Essentially standard, it is fitted with some uprated parts which included JAWS Motorcycles bar risers with preload adjusters, JAWS progressive fork springs, Moto-CNC adjustable footrests, Carbon fibre tank protector, ART Carbon fibre rear hugger/chainguard, Carbon fibre front fender extender and a ScottOiler
In terms of documentation, it has it’s original service book, original owners’ card, original owners’ manual, extensive service bills and invoices in addition to old MOTs, every tax disc, VOSA mileage printout and a clear HPI report. Both keys are present, as is the original owners’ pack
The CBR1100-XX designated ‘Super Blackbird’ was launched in 1996 and named after the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, which was naturally a very fast vehicle. It enjoyed, for a time, the distinction of being the fastest motorcycle that money could buy, then displacing Kawasaki’s ZZR1100 of that particular accolade, until the launch of Suzuki’s Hayabusa in 1999 (with amusingly Hayabusa being the Japanese word for Peregine Falcon, which eats Blackbirds !)
It had an in-line 4 cylinder motor with twin balancer shafts, and offered 164bhp and 124Nm in an exceptionally smooth fashion. Other key mechanical specifications included a 22 litre Fuel Tank, Combined Braking System with Linked Brakes (CBS) 3 Piston Brake Calipers, Honda Multi Action Suspension (HMAS) 43mm H.M.A.S front forks, Pro-Link single shock rear suspension adjustable for preload and rebound, and LCD instruments with fuel gauge. This one also has a factory fitted centre stand fitted
Even today, the Super Blackbird remains a magnificent machine, one of the most comfortable of super tourers, immensely powerful and capable of huge mileages in a totally fuss free manner
This particular bike is quite lovely. In totally original, very clean condition indeed, it remains essentially exactly as it did when it left the Honda showroom 28 years ago. With just 20000 miles, it is in fine fettle thanks to the efforts of it’s last keeper, and rare to be found like this particularly in launch specification guise
