MODEL SUMMARY.
Fabulous Yamaha YZF-R6 5EB in Yamaha Yamaha Vivid Red Cocktail
Not to be confused with lesser examples, this is an exceptional bike in wonderful original condition, and of collector quality. One of the very nicest that will be found
Registered on 2nd November 2002, the supplying Yamaha dealer was TW Motorcycles of Oxford. For whatever reason, the bike was pre-registered to them for just one day, before delivery was taken of it on 3rd November 2002 by it’s original owner. He retained possession of the bike for 22 years and 1 month, before selling it to the second owner in December 2024 whom was a friend of his. It has now come directly to us from the second owner
The original owner paid an additional £600 for a Yamaha ‘Service Plus’ Maintenance Agreement enabling the first 6 annual services to be covered within that and bike was used regularly up until June 2009 whereupon it developed a battery charging issue. The mileage at that time was 11731 miles and it had been serviced 7 times by the supplying Yamaha dealer, TW Motorcycles…
..covered up with dust sheets, and with other things going on in his life, the bike sat in the original owner’s garage for the next 15 years, with no further use
In December 2024, it was sold to it’s second keeper, a capable vehicle engineer (actually a Mercedes F1 Technician), whom completely recommissioned it mechanically, bringing it back to life so to speak. The works completed in December 2024 included new Bridgestone Battlax S21s, oil/filter, fuel filter, air filter, new spark plugs, coolant flush/fresh coolant, new EBC brake pads front and back, Tourmax head to carburettor rubbers, carburettor strip/ultra sonic clean and rebuilt with a full Japanese Keyster kit. The charging issue that had caused the bike to be laid up 15 years prior was simply a failed regulator/rectifier and so this was replaced with a high quality ElectroSport ESR261 item..The bike was also MOTd at this time and so the current MOT expires December 2025
The current mileage is just under 11800 miles and a huge amount of paperwork and documentation is present, in fact essentially everything the bike ever had. this includes it’s original stamped service book, original Yamaha Euro Service and Yamaha Assist owner’s cards, original bill of sale, original ‘Service Plus’ Pre-paid Maintenance Agreement paperwork, every service bill by TW Motorcycles from new, recommissioning parts invoices, old MOTs, historical V5s and Clear HPI report. It also has it’s original owners’ manual and both keys
This is the very last of the original 1999 launch model R6, designated 5EB, just prior to the introduction of the fuel injected 5SL. A truly iconic motorcycle that re-wrote the rules for the 600cc Supersport class in terms of handling and agility, not to mention it’s absolute screamer of a DOHC in line 4 motor with a 15500rpm redline. With 120 crank bhp quoted, this allowed a standing 400m in sub 11s and a top speed in excess of 160mph. This R6 really was the ultimate 600cc Supersport of it’s time and indeed went on to dominate in motorcycle racing at world, national and club level alike (and continues to today in pre-injection classic series’)
It is completely virginal, stock, standard and original, as Yamaha intended, completely box fresh…..
Essentially as good as it gets for one of these, it will appeal to a buyer whom places great importance on originality, condition, and low ownership and mileage provenance. To find an original first generation R6 that has led such a charmed existence will not easily be repeated, and is not to be taken for granted
’90s/noughties Japanese sportsbike are now at the age where values are increasing, along with their collectability and desirability. This is certainly an example for someone looking for long term ownership of one of these bikes as a future investment machine
