MODEL SUMMARY.
UK supplied and registered October 1980 on a ‘W’ suffix, this is a very smart and clean example of a Suzuki GS1000 E
In Red and White, the bike pays homage to the ’70s AMA Championship winning Yoshimura GS1000 bikes ridden by Wes Cooley. It has had a not so small fortune spent on it in recent times with much of the work completed by renowned Jap Classic bike specialists Grumpy 1260 in Norfolk, all of which is documented
Key points include a Vance and Hines 4 into 1 exhaust, and it has had recent dyna ignition, dyna coils, and red Taylor HT leads, valve clearances checked and adjusted, carburettor(s) strip/rebuild with new inlet rubbers, a reconditioned clutch basket with new uprated springs, new YSS Ecoline rear shock absorber units, recent air filter, fresh Shell Advance Ultra 10w/40 semi synthetic oil and filter, new NGK spark plugs, just had carburettors balanced, a new chrome front mudguard, replacement polished clutch cover, and a Micron fork brace fitted. It has good matching Avon Roadriders and straight bars. Some service bills/invoices present. MOTd December 2021
Touted by Suzuki upon it’s launch as ‘The Fast One’ these GS1000s were the fastest bikes of their day, eclipsing exotica such as the Laverda Jota. A sub 12s 1/4 mile time, blowing the then current Porsche 911 Turbo into the weeds, remains fast today, let alone 40 years ago, and all without a hint of temperament. The bike is totally fit and healthy, and just rides beautifully. Properly quick, very good brakes, easy, surprisingly agile handling, and supremely comfortable, this bike is so modern by comparison, and soooo much faster than many other ‘bikes of the same era. Just a very nice machine for pleasure riding.
An eminently useable classic Japanese bike, these big capacity 4 strokes offer a much easier ownership proposition than the (often more expensive) 2 stroke ‘bikes. This is a GS1000 that really stands out in it’s Wes Cooley Yoshimura replica colours, a fitting tribute to the very successful AMA race machines. It looks quite superb, with the Vance and Hines ‘pipe offering a wonderful soundtrack, and will turn heads wherever it goes
