MODEL SUMMARY.

Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer in truly excellent condition

Registered March 2014 and now on a cherished number, the bike was supplied to it’s original owner by the Norton factory at Donington Hall. It has now covered 3400 miles and has service history including it’s original stamped service book, service bills/invoices and a previous bill of sale. It has just been serviced with Motul 5100 10w/40 engine oil and Bosch filter, Motul 5100 10w/40 gearbox and primary drive oil. Has uprated 8.5mm HT Leads with NGK Iridium plugs and excellent matching Metzeler Sportec tyres. Key engine sensors have been replaced with genuine Bosch items, something recognised as very worthwhile in Norton circles. We believe this bike is a very good example of type with a notably mechanically quiet engine, gearbox and final drive, certainly vs others we have encountered

In beautiful Manx Silver with Black pinstriping and detailing, these are a thing of beauty, handbuilt by Norton at their Donington Hall factory in the East Midlands. This bike has the optional black chassis pack with black yokes and black clip-ons, and the ‘must have’ Norton short sports exhausts with de-cat pipes, which run in conjunction with the airbox modification and revised ECU map carried out by Norton. It also has LED small indicators front and rear, Alloy clutch and brake reservoirs, Norton billet short brake and clutch levers all fitted as options and a Rizoma bar end mirror. Most original parts are present

The mechanical specification remains true to the original bikes with a 961cc air cooled parallel twin, and 2v per cylinder operated by pushrods. The gearbox and final drive is a separate unit, and utilises a wet clutch. Of course, there are concessions to modernity with electronic fuel injection and ignition, all looked after by a dedicated ECU which as discussed above is revised on this bike for the upgraded performance hardware

All parts on these bikes are of premium quality and include 43mm diameter Ohlins USD forks with adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping, Ohlins reservoir style twin rear shock absorbers with adjustable ride height, compression and rebound damping, Machined billet yokes, Brembo 320mm diameter floating high carbon front discs, Brembo ‘Goldline’ radially mounted 4 piston calipers, Brembo 220mm diameter rear disc, Brembo 2 piston rear caliper, Braided brake lines, Bespoke Norton instruments with chrome bezzles and housings, electronic analogue speedometer and tachometer, with multi function display, and appropriate ‘Norton – Handbuilt at Donington Hall’ plaque, Morad spoked rims with 3.5″ x 17″ front, and 5.5″ x 17″ rear fitted with  120/70-17 and 180/55-17  tyres, Carbon Fibre number plate holder, Carbon Fibre rear hugger, Carbon Fibre headlight cowl, Carbon Fibre front mudguard, Carbon Fibre chain guard, Magura grips and a Colour coded Manx silver seat cowl

And so, a hugely desirable, charismatic machine, reminiscent of a previous age. Just a wonderful bike to cruise around on, in some style, and will always raise smiles from onlookers thanks to it’s period look and character, and of course, noise

So if you are looking for one of these, to perhaps relive your youth, or just to enjoy, then this bike is as good as it gets
