These T120s were eagerly awaited, as not only were they a complete new model, with an all new engine, but from a romanticism point of view used the name of Triumph’s very first Bonneville, the T120 from 1959
They launched in 2016 with a completely new high output liquid cooled parallel twin 1200cc motor, developing 80bhp, and with a 270 degree crankshaft firing order…
…as has always been the case, they retained the character of the original ’60s Bonnevilles. With this motor though, performance was taken to a different level
Ultimately, these 1200 Bonnevilles had more power, lighter weight, and improved suspension and brakes over their predecessors, and for the first time Ride-By-Wire (RBW) throttle with switchable riding modes, and traction control alongside ABS
The Black, as it’s name suggests, was a stealthy looking anti-chrome model finished in Black (or Grey) with a specification that included traditional spoked wheels with black rims and larger 18” dia. front, heated grips, matt black downpipes and peashooter ‘pipes, rubber knee pads, twin clocks, black engine cases, black and silver cylinder barrels, black/silver mirrors, black forks, black rear shock absorber springs and a dark brown seat
This particular bike also benefits from a Puig fly screen, a Triumph Genuine Accessories Centre stand, TEC adjustable levers, radiator guard, bar end mirrors, ever useful luggage rack with saddlebag mountings, and tank protection pad
These usable and characterful retro Triumphs remain true to their Meriden predecessors from an altogether more relaxed, civilised age, and are great fun and very pleasurable to ride, with their torquey parallel twin motor providing ample effortless performance
In excellent condition, this is a well cared for example, that needs nothing at all. A lovely machine
