The 848/1098/1198, and all of their variants, were the last of an era of bikes that had the Ducati trademark trellis framework and a belt driven motor, these two things alone had characterised Ducati superbikes since 1986, and disappeared with the introduction of the 1199 Panigale
The 848 came a little later than the 1098, and from many viewpoints is the most enjoyable version. With 140ps and 96Nm on tap it has just the right amount of power, and when allied with an agile chassis, tremendous brakes, and lightweight Marchesini wheels, it quickly established itself as one of the best riding Ducatis of all time
