MODEL SUMMARY.

Delightful Norton 850 Commando Roadster Mk1 in Black, Very clean indeed, and highly original other than some worthwhile modern upgrades. All correct numbers

26000 miles. Registered Historic

Imported from the US during 2020, and one knowledgeable, mechanically minded owner since then. Now part exchanged into us against a modern bike

Essentially has a new loom throughout and runs Lucas Rita electronic ignition and TriSpark regulator/rectifier. Also has later adjustable isolastics fitted and new Avon Roadriders

The valve clearances were checked and adjusted by it’s previous owner, and a braided oil supply hose to the valve gear is fitted in place of the original potential weak spot item

We have just completed a full fluids service using Valvoline VR1 mineral 20w50 in the engine, EP90 in the gearbox and ATF Type F in the primary drive. New Champion N7YCs also fitted

The 850 Roadster Mk1 launched in 1973 and was already an ‘old fashioned’ bike then when compared to Honda’s CB750. However, it was honed and polished, and much more refined than earlier models thanks to Isolastic engine mountings. With the strongest, most reliable motor yet seen in a Commando, combined with the universally applauded 4 speed gearbox, it could still hold it’s own

Indicators featured as standard equipment for the first time, operated by venerable Lucas switchgear,

This bike starts easily, and quickly settles to an even idle, revving ever so crisply on the slightest throttle input, and with a wonderful bark from the exhausts. It will never ‘kick back’ an indication that the timing is spot on

The condition is that of a very original, lightly restored bike, and aesthetically true to it’s design specification

All in all, this is a very nice machine that looks, runs and rides every bit as nicely as you would hope for.

All original numbers on the frame, engine and gearbox are matching in the, correct for year, in this case 304xxx

Ready to be used and enjoyed this coming summer with no work, other than the usual mechanically sympathetic ongoing maintenance any such older vehicle demands.

A true classic machine in every sense of the words. It will offer much pleasure on those Sunday morning rideouts and meets with similarly minded riders and owners, and instil a great deal of pleasure from it’s ownership
