MODEL SUMMARY.
Ducati 999R, no. 137 in Ducati Rosso Anniversario with Black Forged Marchesini 10 spoke rims. UK supplied by Ducati franchised dealers St.Neots Motorcycles in Cambridge. Registered April 2003 on an ’03’ plate, this is the much rarer ‘early’ type with silver frame and cast swingarm.
Just 8500 miles with extensive history and paperwork including it’s original service book + all original manuals, a previous bill of sale when sold by Snell’s Ducati in Hampshire, service bills/invoices and old MOTs. Sale includes new timing belts, fresh Shell Ultra advance fully synthetic oil and new brake/clutch fluid. Replacement clutch fitted at 5200 miles by Snell’s Ducati in Hampshire, whom also checked the valve clearances at 7200 miles. The bike is well known to Snell’s Ducati, and the greater majority of it’s service history is with them.
The Ducati 999 followed the much loved 916/996/998 Massimo Tamburini designed series. Penned by Pierre Terblanche, it became one of the most successful race bikes every produced by Ducati Corse, winning 3 out of 5 World Superbike titles between 2003 and 2007.
Any ‘R’ specification Ducati is a bike of huge desirability, the pinnacle of Ducati’s engineering and exclusivity of it’s respective time. With regard to the 999R, each one came with a factory numbered top yoke, no. 137 in this case, and a limited edition alloy plaque and presentation box which is present with all the bike’s documents.
It utilised a revised 999cc motor, previously seen in the earlier 998R, which significantly was higher revving due to it’s shorter stroke, and had stronger engine cases, lightened internals, revised cams and bigger valves. When hooked up to the standard fitment 102db single muffler Termignoni exhaust system itself saving 3kg (7lb) in weight, the motor produced 139bhp and 80 lb/ft. That only tells half the story though. Anyone with an appreciation of these things will instantly notice how quickly the motor responds to the throttle, and with such a hard edged note, totally different to it’s lesser brethren. An engineering jewel, and a quite magnificent, highly exotic engine.
The specification included the best of everything, carbon fibre fairings and body panels, Ducati Corse Carbon fibre front hugger, a magnesium headlight support, fully adjustable 43mm dia. Ohlins forks, fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock, fully adjustable Ohlins steering damper, Brembo radially mounted calipers with 320mm dia. front discs, black Forged lightweight Marchesini 10 spoke wheels, twin sided cast swingarm, the afforementioned 102 db Termignoni exhausts and dedicated ECU, adjustable levers with Brembo radial master cylinders and remote reservoirs and a Ducati Monoposto seat unit in Red/White with factory Mono rear subframe.
Additionally this particular bike has some expensive upgrades fitted including Ducati Corse Carbon fibre rear hugger, Ducati Corse tank protector, Ducati Corse exhaust heat shield, Ducati Corse heel plates, Ducati Corse lightweight alloy QR fuel cap, Ducati Performance front number board and armourfending, and a Ducati Performance alloy open clutch cover.
